Welcome to the 106th United States Open Championship

The United States Golf Association proudly conducts the 2006 U.S. Open Championship at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y. Winged Foot is an exemplary course designed by A.W. Tillinghast and completed in 1923. The club has substantially renovated its West Course over the last several years and successfully hosted the 2004 United States Amateur Championship.

We are excited that the Championship is returning to this historic venue. The 2006 Championship will be the fifth U.S. Open conducted on the West Course—previous U.S. Opens were played at Winged Foot Golf Club in 1929, 1959, 1974 and 1984 and include Bob Jones, Billy Casper, Hale Irwin and Fuzzy Zoeller as champions. We are confident that this year’s championship will identify another deserving champion.

Every effort has been made to provide convenient access to and from the course, as well as securing the best viewing possibilities to watch this championship. This easy-to-read booklet contains suggestions that we hope will make your experience at the U.S. Open more enjoyable.

I hope you will take with you from this National Championship memories of a great course, keen competition at the highest level and, most importantly, an increased affection for the unique spirit of integrity and sportsmanship that makes golf the greatest game of all.
